Biology's Role in Grower Success

Biology's Role in Grower Success

Broad-spectrum biologicals are capable of improving return on investment in many ways. From increasing yield and nutrient density, to improving plant health and resilience, supporting the natural nutrient cycle in your soil is an easy way to get more out of the ground, with less work. Biology doesn’t just work IN your soil, it works WITH your soil.

One of the most prominent benefits to using a liquid biological is that it works, even if it’s not applied perfectly. Josh is a long-time user of BIOACTIVE LiquiLife™ (formerly CX-1), who ran a trial using BIOACTIVETM LiquiLife this past summer. He didn’t intend to run this 2023 trial, but on this night the trigger mechanism on his planter wasn’t working properly, he knew as it was happening. On this small 20-acre parcel of his 700-acre farm, late in the day, 7 miles from home with no tools; he decided to continue to plant.

Sometimes the most compelling trials are the unplanned ones:

His variance was to the line of his 16-row planter “every time.” When he compared cobs, he saw this:

No In-Furrow LiquiLife: 12 rows by 40 kernels.  With In-Furrow LiquiLife: 16 rows by 43 kernels.

If you estimate ten bushels per kernel row that is a 40-bushel difference.

Did the start make that big a difference? We believe it did. He had sufficient N-P-K fertility 2x2, and the plants that germinated quickly developed roots to get there. Bigger roots mine minerals and moisture, resulting in plants that receive a greater shot at success. For the weeks that followed, those plants seemed to receive the nutrients and moisture the others did not. That head start was directly responsible for the increase in final yield, and BIOACTIVE LiquiLifeTM helped it get there.

In a typical year, one can expect a broad-spectrum biological to produce a solid return; when conditions get tough, the ROI can be exceptional. This is because biologicals help to ‘bridge the gaps’ caused by nutrient deficiency, drought, flooding, and other adverse natural conditions. Microbes might not be able to save your yield from a wildfire, but they can recover your soil’s quality after disaster.

The biggest areas where you’ll see a return on your investment:

  • Yield
  • Resilience
  • Nutrient Density
  • Plant Health
  • Systems Improvement

Winter Wheat and/or new alfalfa:

As we move into the cooler part of the season, your winter wheat and new alfalfa crop are working to get a head-start before the deep freeze sets in. We don’t know what this coming winter will bring, but we do know that fall plants that develop tillers can withstand a harsh winter better than those that do not.  We know that nutrient density = resiliency = healthy plants, and we know that healthy plants can resist hard winters. Get a stronger start from your field with BIOACTIVE LiquiLifeTM or BIOACTIVE LiquiLife+TM.
